Summer thoughts

mullaghrellan woods

Beautiful warm and Summer weather here in Ireland, the UK and in Europe at the moment. I know that I have posted this before,  but a walk along country roads and in the woods brought it to mind:

I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

    1. Hi Chris
Sorry that I did not reply sooner. Was in Devon on a silent retreat and away from computers etc. Sorry to hear about your fall and hope that you are doing better. Yes, life is a teacher, and we are sometimes “stronger in the broken places” as Hemmingway said, but take things easy and be gentle with yourself. It seems to me that much of this journey is a letting go into how things are, which I find very hard, as I seem to all the time prefer becoming and being born into “different” rather than staying with what is. Thanks for all the comments, Karl

      1. Thank you Karl. What you have said here sums it up. for me; this is the power of mindfulness summed up in very few words., ‘a letting go into how things are’. I have been fighting with how things are for the past two weeks and in the end we use up far more energy doing so. As you say though, it’s hard and I keep on trying to resist. I do however, have moments of contentment with how things are so that’s lrogress I guess. Thank you for your kind words.
