……stop running

A traditional Jewish tale says: Rabbi Levi saw a man running in the street, and asked him, “Why do you run?” He replied, “I am running after my good fortune!” Rabbi Levi tells him, “Silly man, your good fortune has been trying to chase you, but you are running too
fast.”

Be still……

Everything inside and everything around us wants to reflect itself in us.

We don’t have to go anywhere to obtain the truth.

We only need to be still and things will reveal themselves in the still water of the heart

Sunday Quote: Accepting the ups and downs of life

Flowers fall even if we love them,
and weeds grow even if we hate them,
and that is all.

Try this: Not trying to fix yourself

What we have to do is really feel the motivation that arises, not from trying to change ourselves but from trying to be ourselves as fully as we can.

Barry Magid, Ending the Pursuit of Happiness

A blueprint for a life

This Thai text was recently sent to me. It is beautiful in its simplicity. It was chosen to be read at a marriage ceremony and thus can be seen as a guide for a life in friendship together.

The ultimate in giving is…to give selflessly without thought of reward,

The ultimate in charity is…to forgive oneself and others,

The ultimate in love is…to love without the will to possess,

The ultimate in being human is…to be contented and live one’s life with love and happiness.

….and endures all kinds of change

If we think of happiness as a way of being, as something that represents a state of flourishing, of fulfillment, of a well-being that endures through all events in life, even all different kinds of emotions and mental states, something that gives you the inner resources to deal with whatever comes your way—pleasant, unpleasant circumstances, helpful circumstances, adverse circumstances—something that gives you some kind of platform or way of being that’s behind all that, and that gives you the resources to deal with all that.
