Sunday Quote: stop

When you stop trying to achieve,

you discover what has always been there.

Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

devoted to gratitude

What would it be like

to awaken to a day devoted to gratitude

a day of thankfulness for what was

and yet will be?

Stephen Levine

A poem for those who struggle

When you are in darkness, feeling pitiful or alone,

remember you are blessed with a soul

that is more receptive to the Spirit

and closer to love, joy and peace

than you were when life seemed grand.

This is what “blessed are the poor in Spirit”

means.

Meister Eckhart

Different rhythms

Violence is done to the soul when we are forced to live at a pace that is not our own, when we are held to standards that are not our own, when we are denied the right to rest in the rhythms of our own being.

Parker Palmer, A Hidden Wholeness

Every day is a new day

For the new month….

Every moment is a surprise, if we have the eyes to see it.

The more we cultivate awareness,

the more we realize that even the ordinary is extraordinary.

David Steindal-Rast

Go easy

Was walking in the woods over the long weekend with an awareness of the Japanese term komorebi – the flickering of sunlight filtering through the leaves, ever changing. We can learn life lessons here:

When I am among the trees….
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”

Mary Oliver, When I am Among the Trees
