Sunday Quote: Indifferent

Learn to be indifferent to what makes no difference

Marcus Aurelius

Dying slowly

You start dying slowly
if you do not travel,
if you do not read,
if you do not listen to the sounds of life,
if you do not appreciate yourself.

You start dying slowly
If you become a slave of your habits,
Walking everyday on the same paths…
If you do not change your routine,
If you do not wear different colours
Or you do not speak to those you don’t know.

You start dying slowly
If you do not change your life when you are not satisfied with your job, or with your love,
If you do not risk what is safe for the uncertain,
If you do not go after a dream,

If you do not allow yourself,
At least once in your lifetime,
To run away from sensible advice
.

Pablo Neruda, You Start Dying Slowly

its all right

Water, when it flows downstream, does not have a model of what it’s doing. Its just being water, and water flows downstream, because that’s how water works.

The thing that is extraordinarily hard for any of us to truly realize and have sufficient faith to accept, is that if you stop having views, having models, planning, desiring, organizing and structuring….

it’s all right.

Ram Dass

The small ways

If you assume that purpose is something big, you might think its something that you’ll feel at some point down the road, after you’ve achieved something significant. You’re pushing purpose off into the future instead of creating it day-to-day. This mindset prevents you from identifying all the small ways you can contribute to the world right now.

Sunday Quote: Like children

May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.

Rainer Maria Rilke, I believe in all that has never yet been spoken

Non-doing

We have a tendency to think in terms of doing and not in terms of being. We think that when we are not doing anything we are wasting our time.

But that is not true. Our time is first of all for us to be.

‘To be what’? To be alive, to be peaceful, to be joyful, to be loving.

And that is what the world needs most
