Breathe

Bring those spaces into your everyday life, as many as possible. When you get into your car, shut the door and be there for just half a minute. Breathe, feel the energy inside your body, look around at the sky, the trees. The mind might tell you, I don’t have time. But that’s the mind talking to you. Even the busiest person has time for 30 seconds of space.

Eckhart Tolle, in interview with Oprah Winfrey

Set-backs

Sometimes we must undergo hardships, breakups, and narcissistic wounds, which shatter the flattering image that we had of ourselves, in order to discover two truths: that we are not who we thought we were; and that the loss of a cherished pleasure is not necessarily the loss of true happiness and well-being.

Jean-Yves Leloup, Compassion and Meditation

Where you actually are

When you find your place where you actually are, practice occurs....

When you find your way at this moment, practice occurs…

Here is the place; Here the way unfolds

Start now

Starting here, what do you want to remember?…
Are you waiting
for time to show you some better thoughts?

When you turn around, starting here, lift this
new glimpse that you found; carry into evening
all that you want from this day. This interval you spent
reading or hearing this, keep it for life –

What can anyone give you greater than now,
starting here, right in this room, when you turn around?

William Stafford, You Reading this, Be Ready (extract)

Observe

So easy this week in Ireland, with beautiful Indian Summer days bathing the fields in light

Observe the wonders as they occur around you.
Don’t claim them. Feel the artistry
moving through, and be silent.

Rumi

Another moment, another chance

 I know now,
after fifty years,
that the finding/losing, forgetting/remembering,
leaving/returning, never stops.
The whole of life is about another chance
