A new day, a new week

“Let there be Buechner”. And why not? Out of the primeval chaos of sleep he calls me to be life again.   He calls me to be this rather than that; he calls me to be here rather than there; he calls me to be now rather than then.  Waking into the new day, we are all of us Adam on the morning of creation, and the world is ours to name.

Out of many fragments we are called to put back together a self again.

Frederick Buechner, The Alphabet of Grace

Sunday Quote: Unknown

One is never afraid of the unknown;

one is afraid of the known coming to an end.

Jiddu Krisnamurti

The dance

Mystery is so ever-present that no one can know for certain what will happen one hour from now. From mystery’s vantage there is no fixed path. In truth there is no path at all, for that would be to place it into the realm of space and time. To awaken is not to fix or hold but to love whatever is here. Knowing this truth releases our hearts from grasping. The mystery that gave us birth becomes a dance

Jack Kornfield, After the Ecstasy, the Laundry

Sunday Quote: How to measure success in life

If the day and the night are such,  that you greet them with joy,

and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs,

is more elastic, more starry, more immortal…

that is your success.

Henry David  Thoreau

Free medicine

Finally Spring has arrived after the warm sunshine of last weekend. Fresh growth everywhere.

Lord, the air smells good today,

straight from the mysteries  within the inner courts of God.

A grace like new clothes thrown  across the garden,

free medicine for everybody.

The trees in their prayer, the birds in praise,  the first blue violets kneeling.

Whatever came from Being is caught up in being, drunkenly forgetting the way back.

Rumi, Lord, the Air Smells Good Today

Everything is a part of everything else

This morning

the beautiful white heron

was floating along above the water

and then into the sky of this

the one world

we all belong to

where everything

sooner or later

is a part of everything else

which thought made me feel

for a little while

quite beautiful myself.
