Abba Moses asked Abba Sylvanus, ‘Can a person lay a new foundation every day?’

The desert Abbas and Ammas of the early Christian Church cultivated a wonderful form of prayer which allows to be more present and open to God. Today this practice is calked Centering Prayer (Thomas Keating) or Contemplative Prayer (Thomas Merton) . This practise has helped me to recognize any separation from God as a cause of suffering.
