Staying where you are

If we commit ourselves to staying right where we are, then our experience becomes very vivid.

Things become very clear when there is nowhere to escape.

Pema Chodron, When Things Fall Apart

Just sit

I was passionate,
filled with longing,
I searched
far and wide.

But the day
that the Truthful One
found me,
I was at home.
Lal Ded, 14th-century Kashmiri saint and mystic poet

Not the form we expect

All life worth living is difficult, nobody promised us happiness;

it is not a commodity you have earned, or shall ever earn.

It is a by-product of brave living, and it never comes in the form we expect, or at the season we hoped for, or as the result of our planning for it.

Katherine Anne Porter  1890 –  1980, American journalist, short story writer, novelist, and political activist.

Absolute presence

Reality met on its own terms demands absolute presence, and absolute giving away, an ability to live on equal terms with the fleeting and the eternal, the hardly touchable and the fully possible, a full bodily appearance and disappearance, a rested giving in and giving up;another identity braver, more generous and more here than the one looking hungrily for the easy, unearned answer.

Sunday Quote: a place that holds

It is not a matter of looking for happiness

or trying to avoid suffering

but of going to the place beyond happiness or suffering.

Ajahn Chah

A place to stand

The question we need to ask ourselves is whether there is any place we can stand in ourselves where we can look at all that’s happening around us without freaking out, where we can be quiet enough to hear our predicament, and where we can begin to find ways of acting that are at least not contributing to further destabilization
